Open Ateliers: Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 October meetings and cocktails with the talents that make Venice unique. The first weekend of Venice Fashion Week 2022 is dedicated to discovering fashion in boutiques and craft workshops

The weekend dedicated to craftsmanship and sustainable shopping in boutiques, ateliers and workshops of Venice is back. Cocktails with designers, presentations and walks with fashion experts Giulia Carli, image consultant, and architect and costume historian Raffaele Dessì, as well as the team members and photographers of Venezia da Vivere and Venice Fashion Week.

Séverina Lartigue and the art of flower making
Nadia Syrkova, Syrk Design
Séverina Lartigue: Silk flower making, a technique of Italian origin brought to France back in 1738, consists of skilfully transforming fabric into a single flower. Maître d’art and floral parurière, Séverina has been creating handmade silk flowers for haute couture in her atelier in Normandy since 1998. She works for the most important French haute couture maisons, and collaborates with the Paris Opera and cinema.
650 Silk Roses is an exhibition designed by Séverina for the Tokyo Rose Festival in Japan, now on show at the Magazzino Gallery from 19 to 26 October. The collection is inspired by the roses painted by the Duchesse de Montebello di Winterhalter in a painting of Empress Eugénie – the spirit of the Second Empire par excellence – for the 1855 Universal Exhibition in Paris.
Nadia Syrkova. Born in St Petersburg, raised in Venice and educated at Central Saint Martins in London, Nadia Syrkova is the mind and hand behind Syrk Design.
In each hat that takes shape in Nadia’s expert hands, her love of theatrical costumes and her passion for decoration come together. In her Atelier in Castello, Nadia infuses each hat with her creativity and her perpetual search for new materials that are 100% Made in Italy, constantly exploring different techniques. Each creation is unique, modelled on the measurements, style and desires of each individual customer, thus creating a timeless accessory that reflects the personality of the wearer.
Sunday 23 October at 5 pm Magazzino Gallery presents. The eight steps of haute couture flower making with Séverina Lartigue: drawing, trimming, cutting, dyeing, embossing, shaping, flower setting and finishing of a silk rose.
Syrk Design with Nadia Syrkova: Nadia takes inspiration from travel, Venetian craftsmanship and haute couture to decorate and paint the hats she makes by hand.

Fourth edition of Venice Photo Lab, the photography festival that has chosen a theme that is as current as ever: What is freedom? The project, sponsored by Venice Fashion Week, brings together more than 60 photographers and artists from all over the world, some of them international award-winners such as Paolo Verzone and Eric Lafforgue. It is curated by Fabio Cavessago and the Lab77 Association. It takes place in the beautiful artisan workspaces of the UnisVe Laboratory, and through the shop windows of the Dorsoduro shops, thanks to the collaboration with the Do.Ve association.
The exhibition is open with free admission from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. until Sunday 23 October.

Printmaking workshop. Meeting and demonstration Saturday 22 October from 3 to 6 pm
Vanessa Milan is an artist specialising in illustration, graphics and serigraphy, etching and xylography. Editor-in-chief of her independent publishing house Edizioni DoppioFondo, she is also the curator of exhibitions such as Project Room for CAMeC (Museum of Contemporary Art of La Spezia), organises workshops with associations, with the Department of Mental Health and as part of the prison rehabilitation programme.

On Saturday morning the Venetian tailor Demis Marin in his small atelier in Rialto will show us some examples of creations made using the ‘upcycling’ technique, which allows you to give new life and restore value to clothes, ties, outerwear that are no longer useful. The term ‘upcycling’ comes from the German mechanical engineer Reiner Pilz who said in a 1994 interview: “I call recycling “down-cycling”. What we need is “up-cycling”, whereby old products are given a greater value”.
Up-cycling is one of the themes dear to Venice Fashion Week and it will be fully explored in the field of tailoring on Wednesday 26 October at 11 am at Palazzo Sagredo during the seminar: Upcycling, creative recycling of clothes and accessories organised by Confartigianato Imprese, Confartigianato Imprese Veneto and EBAV, together with Demis and Valentina Bonafé of EstroDiverso.

Saturday 22 October,
Woman-Life-Freedom ( Donna-Vita-Libertà)  is the slogan chosen by Kooch gallery for its participation in Atelier Aperti. The atelier offers Persian art objects by contemporary artists and designers, textiles, ceramics and outerwear. On Saturday 22 October at 4pm, fashion designer Anahita Matin will give a performance on the theme Woman Life Freedom, followed by a musical performance by Iranian musician Fuad Ahmadvand.
Donna-Vita-Libertà è lo slogan scelto dalla galleria Kooch per la sua partecipazione ad Atelier Aperti. L’atelier propone oggetti d’arte persiani di artisti e designer contemporanei, tessuti, ceramiche e capi spalla. Sabato 22 ottobre alle ore 16 la fashion designer Anahita Matin realizzerà una performance sul tema Donna Vita Libertà, seguita dall’esibizione musicale di Fuad Ahmadvand, musicista iraniano.
A journey into Persian art conceived by owner Yasra Pouyeshman through the jewellery of Sarah Ramzi, the bags of Nogolo Shalali, the clothes of fashion designers Anahita Matin, Sanaz Nataj and Mehrnoosh Shahhosseini, and the sculptures of Afghan artist Alikhan Abdullah.

A creative boutique where people dress up, laugh, create made-to-measure clothes and share passions and projects. Giorgia Starace, the founder of the brand 2091 presents the new collection of skirts in her boutique in Campo San Polo, one of the largest and most beautiful squares in Venice.

Recycled paper becomes a fairy tale. A demonstration by creative Sofia Sarria on the techniques she uses to create her fantastic ‘animals’. The event will feature a small aperitif.

This was the street of Venetian goldsmiths and every workshop shone with gold and precious stones. Thanks to Marina and Susanna Sent’s atelier, Sottoportego dei Oresi continues to tell the story of Venetian creativity and craftsmanship. The glass creations of the Sent sisters connect the craftsmanship of Murano glass with the search for innovative solutions. Their complicity emerges in the creation of glass jewellery that focuses on the principles of essentiality, a language that translates into the minimalism of transparent elements and the fantasy of coloured ones.

Brothers Stefano and Daniele Attombri have been reinterpreting the history, techniques and potential of Murano glass in a contemporary key since the late 1980s, ranging between fashion and applied arts. They continue to work according to the Venetian tradition of the “perlere” (glass pearl designers and stringers), expanding the potential of ancient knowledge with new creations of lamps, decorative objects and jewellery.

Lorenzo, Carolina and Marco Marin are three Venetian design talents. “Working with wax allows you to stay in touch with your most intimate emotions and shape them”. Valeria Sacchi Boncompagni‘s creations are moments that become eternal. From her workshop in Piazza San Marco, Valeria creates small wearable sculptures – in gold, silver, bronze, coral and precious stones.

The handmade footwear brand born in the heart of the footwear district of Veneto and protagonist of fashion shows and fashion parties opened its store in July in front of La Fenice Theatre. Venetian Shanti Ganesha, whose father is Indian, founded Curame, her handmade leathergoods brand that revisits the classic in a minimalist key, after years of travelling in search of inspirations and materials for handicrafts. The design of her bags is unique: cocoons, weaves, nets with a unique contemporary design. The leather she chooses is certified by the consortium ‘genuine Italian vegetable-tanned leather’, i.e. tanned with organic material such as tree bark and plants.

Aperitif in the workshop on 22 and 23 October from 5 to 9 pm
The contemporary Murano glass jewellery of the Venetian artist Cosima Montavoci laughs at life and its imperfections, ironically commenting on the power plays between individuals and the issues of our time. For Atelier Aperti Cosima opens the doors to the public of her new atelier and showroom in Murano (which will remain open to the public by appointment only).
For the occasion there will be: the launch of the new Pop-issima collection, two-day opening aperitifs from 5pm to 9pm, discounts of up to 50% on creations no longer available on the site and 20% on a selection of the Thingness collection only on site, and it will also be possible to attend demonstrations of lampworking (by appointment only at info@sunsetyogurt.com or on +39 370 3689211).
